Food in Baler!

Baler has a lot more to it than beaches, waterfalls and surfing! At its center are different establishments to visit, to learn Baler’s culture! I didn’t list down everything tho..

Since I’m a Catholic, there is the Church of Baler and near it were stalls selling souvenirs, furnitures, home deco, food, etc! Just across the street stands the house of Maria Aurora Quezon, the wife of Manuel L. Quezon. There is also the Museo de Baler (no picture). There were free maps being given by the tourism assistance posts which features Baler’s landmarks and other infos. It was very useful since we were able to choose what landmarks to go to.

Food in Baler? One should always choose the local food!

We tried different foods as we passed by in Baler. We saw the famous Gerry Shan’sbut there were a lot of people. We instead ate in FOODS PA!

  • Beside it was an ice cream place, Puno’s Ice Cream & Sherbet! My mom told me it was featured in Kris Aquino’s TV show. One cup (80mL) costs Php15.00! That’s a good price for a good cup of ice cream! I actually had 2 cups of the Langka-Cheese-Cashew flavor! Other flavors were Cheese-Cashew-Macapuno, Ube Macapuno, Fruit Salad, Coffee Crumble, Chocolate Cashew, Cookies & Cream, Buko Sherbet & Lychees. I highly recommend buying and even taking them home, if possible!
  • We also ate in a random Lutong Bahay or Carinderia which I forgot the name of but their food was a bit expensive! One order of the Kaldereta costs Php60.00. One piece of shrimp (sugpo ata?) was Php100.00! But their Bulalo was really gooooooood! Okay, I’m used to the bulalo cup noodles so the shift to the real one was ah-maze-zing-zing-zing! Haha!
  • Across the street of the lutong bahay was a pizza stall! A square-cut of Alfonso’s pizza costs Php25.00 but who doesn’t love pizza, right?
  • Another food I had was the Halo-halo from the place we stayed in Maria Aurora, it had kamote cuts, iykwim, haha!
  • And lastly, the first and the last thing we had in Baler was their Suman! First love never dies talaga! It tasted like suman+kalamay+champorado. They were sold somewhere in the zigzag road of Pantabangan-Maria Aurora. It was Php100.00 for 3 bundles but after 4 days when we came back, it became Php120.00! What a rip-off, haha, kidding! The lady said something but yeah, we believed her and she even gave us free, hot and freshly made ones straight from the bowl!

The Obvious Traveler Tip: When travelling, avoid the fast food chains *ehem mcdo jollibee* and just explore what the locals has to offer! I’m really loving the Filipino food, esp. the seafood! As what my mom says, “you give them business.” Choose local, choose pinoy.. lol, but srsly tho.
